Published in Jeep Action Magazine Again

Back in March 2010 I had an article published in the Australian Jeep Action Magazine covering the first half of my journey.

In the May 2012 edition, the conclusion to the story was published, which I’m again really excited about.

Head out and buy a copy if you’d like to see the story in all it’s glory.

    So cool, Im very jealous!

  2. Dan, did you start your trip because of the articles in Jeep Magazine or did they approach you when they found out about it?

    • Dan says:

      Hey Stephen,
I started the journey, then wrote to a few magazines, newspapers, etc. telling them of my journey.
Jeep Action was interested, so I provided the articles and the pics.

Are you setting out on a grand Overland journey?

I love that they followed up on your journey! That is great!

I also want to say its awesome to see a new blog post up from you. I hope life has been treating you well since your journey ended. I still find myself coming back to this site frequently to read about some of the adventures and get inspiration for my own journey one day.

      Hey Brian,
Great to hear from you too ! Thanks again for the kind words.
It’s warm and sunny outside now, so I’m struggling to stay inside and update my site/work on projects.
Winter is fast approaching, and it’s cold and dark up here, so I’m vowing to get a bunch more updates online during that time.
Soon there will be a ton more photos online, I’ve been having some big adventures in the North!

      All the best,
      -Dan

    Dan,

I am planning the same trip in a 2013 Jeep Wrangler. I am very interested in hearing if you had any mechanical issues along the way, and if so, how you handled them. I have been somewhat apprehensive about doing the trip in a Jeep due to the lack of dealer/parts support in Central and South America.

Please feel free to email me. Congratulations on a successful journey!

    • Dan says:

      Hey Terry,

For the entire 65,000km (40,000 mi.) I did not have a single mechanical issue. Not one.

You will find some countries have plenty of Jeeps, dealers and parts (Mexico, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru and Argentina come to mind) and some countries do not have Jeeps, dealers or parts (I think say Honduras).

I would think hard about what spares and tools you will bring, and what a breakdown means to you. (i.e. can you sit in a dusty town in Honduras for 3 weeks waiting for someone to send you parts). You’re in a brand new Jeep, so I wouldn’t worry too much (mine was 9 years old and had 70k miles on the clock when I started).
You’ll want to think about how you’re going to get your Jeep home too, as I imagine it’s too expensive to leave behind.

You’ll want to checkout WikiOverland, the encyclopedia of Overland Travel which contains all the info you’re going to need like border crossings, gas prices, insurance, parking, camping, security, maps, gps, etc. etc.
When you pass through each country, please take 5 minutes to update anything that has changed like gas prices, that way everyone can benefit.

Have an amazing journey! Feel free to ask any questions, I’m happy to help in any way I can.

      -Dan
