The Okavango Delta
The Road Chose Me Volume 2 OUT NOW!!
The Road Chose Me Volume 2: Three years and 54,000 miles around Africa
No visit to Botswana would be complete without a visit to the magical Okavango Delta. Early in the morning we drive until the roads stop, then jump aboard a traditional Makoro boat (like a canoe) to glide through the swampy wetland.
Within five minutes of leaving shore we coast mighty close to a few elephants, which look enormous from my vantage point. Soon after we’re close to a hippo chomping greenery, and for the rest of the morning we spot many small critters and flowers.
For a break we walk on dry land where we spot many animals, and learn why zebras and wildebeest often hang out together. One has great eyesight while the other has great hearing. By working together they increase their chances of anticipating a predator’s approach – simple and effective!
Floating back on the waterway is extremely relaxing, and I’m left wanting more… a multi-day trip through the wetlands here must be spectacular!!
