The Namib Desert, Namibia Pt. 1

The Namib Desert in the far North West of Namibia is equally impressive as in Angola. I am shocked how quickly – and how often – the landscape switches from open sandy planes to rocky mountainous scrambles and back again with everything in between.

Extremely barren at times

At times the track is quite sandy

The track is rocky sometimes

Wild camping each night is spectacularly beautiful and peaceful.
Years ago Namibia was on the top of my list of reasons to visit “Africa”, and I have to say it is more than living up to expectations!

These cool bugs keep showing up!

This guy started off bright green

And then turned much darker and with patches!

I will let the photos do the talking.

Hi Dan, can you share if you’re now at the point where this isn’t just your life, but also your profession? Are you getting the point where you can travel indefinitely off the blog and writing articles, etc?

    • Dan Grec says:

      Hey Jared,

I am working on it for sure. I’m putting the finishing touches on my first printed book and submitting a lot of magazine articles each month.
The income from everything combined is still not covering the trip expenses, so eventually my bank account will run out and the trip will have to end.

    Hi Dan,
Great post! I would love to Wild camp on my upcoming self drive trip to Namibia, i am struggling to find locations where you can wild camp, would you be able to inform me of where it is allowed? Thanks for your time.
    Kind Regards, Jesse

    • Dan Grec says:

      Hi Jesse,

It’s about trusting your instincts, and finding places that don’t have fences or civilization. You get better at it the more you practice.
also, checkout ioverlander.com – it lists wild camps and there are a few in there I added!
You can use the website, or get the app for your phone for free, it’s a great resource.
