Piedras Negras

We trek directly inland from Luanda, and after a long hot day on the road we arrive at Piedras Negras just on sunset. These “black rocks” are a beautiful outcropping of huge stones, seemingly at random.

We again find the perfect wild camp, and I play with star photography late into the night while watching a lightening storm brew far away on the horizon.

Hiking around the whole area in the morning is supremely beautiful and peaceful, and I am stunned there are absolutely no tourists getting around.

Not far away we find this tank, another clear sign of Angola’s extremely troubled history.

We found this abandoned tank in the long grass next to the road. Walking in long grass is not a good idea.
