Laguna Parón

After arriving in Carez and getting some local information I decide to day hike the sights in the Cordillera Blanca, partly as training for what is to come, and partly because I’m lazy and like to camp near the Jeep whenever possible simple smile

And more mountains

After a steep, bumpy hill climb I reach Laguna Parón, 4185 meters above sea level. It’s a beautiful glacier-fed lake and I enjoy the hike down to the end and back so much I decide to camp the night. In the morning, the mountain at the end of the lake, Piramide (5885m) is extremely clear and looks to be smoking (it’s not).

The views around the Cordillera Blanca are jaw-dropping, so I think I’ll let the photos do the talking for a while.

I just found your blog from a Jeep post on Facebook a few days ago and have spent the last few days catching up and adding your blog to my google reader feeds. What an amazing trip! In the mid 90’s I was in the US army and stationed in Panama. I worked some in Colombia and Peru (Lima) so I have been following your trips through these parts with special interest! Thank you for sharing your wonderful story!

    Hey Dan,

David from Strata Health here… you remember me, the annoying, stressed out client services guy who always came to you with silly requirements and urgent timelines? Yeah, I’m sure you’re missing that life, I bet you have already booked you’re flight to return to Calgary.

I’m sure you have been asked this a hundred times by now – how are you financing your trip? Did you save up before hand? Donations? Odd jobs along the way?

      Hey David,
Great to hear from you man. Hope things are doing well on your end.. living the simple life in rural BC I imagine.
I did save up for a couple of years beforhand, and now I am running onto credit cards.
I will do a detailled post about money when its all said and done.
      All the best,
      -Dan

Started reading somewhere in the middle, but had to go back to the beginning, and just caught up. Amazing trip, and very inspiring. Hopefully you will turn this into a book after your travels are complete?
