Buenos Aires!

My family and I organized many months ago to meet in Buenos Aires for Christmas, and it’s been my long-term destination ever since.
The day finally arrives to head into the big city and a 650km, 10 hour day sees me drive right into the middle of downtown without any problems.
Good maps make all the difference.

The city is huge, and after getting home at 7am on my first night out I get to work learning my way around the city and eventually rent an apartment for us all for a month. It’s extremely surreal to goto sleep in my “own” apartment, complete with fridge full of delicious cold stuff, and even a microwave.
Seriously, is that thing safe?

Please excuse a lack of updates over Christmas/NYE while I party / relax / laugh & smile with my family. It’s been a long time. Too long.
Things will pick right back up again early in the near year.

Merry Christmas all!

-Dan

Hey Dan, thanks for the inspiration. My son and I just returned from a week long road trip, thanks to you. Went from Houston to Greeley, Colorado to visit friends, hitting Palo Duro Canyon on the way up. To summarize the trip, we came back through Arizona and New Mexico. We spent time at San Isabel mountains, Royal Gorge, Bissop’s Castle, Grand Canyon, Prescott Arizona, the Meteor Crater and Petrified Forest (it is awesome), a couple of ghost towns in New Mexico, Roswell, Carlsbad Caverns, and a few more places. Basically no real plan, just stopping wherever we saw something cool. Our friends in Greeley couldn’t understand why we didn’t just fly. We only had a week, but we saw a ton of amazing things. I am already looking forward to the next one. If you get the chance, I highly recommend the Petrified Forest, it was my favorite of the whole trip.

    Hi Dan and family
Hope you are all having a lovely break and enjoying the sunshine.
Tell Liz that our flights to Prague were cancelled so we had Christmas at home. I’ll see her on 3rd Jan at Heathrow.
Happy New Year to you all.

  12. Mike says:

Holy moly Dan – you’re in Buenos Aires. I suppose you didn’t need me to tell you that, but as always, I’m impressed. It’s also good to read that your family came down to celebrate the holidays with you. Hope you had a merry Christmas and have a happy new year. I’m looking forward to your exploits in Patagonia. Keep on rambling in 2011!

    • Dan says:

Hey Mike! How are you man? I hope your Christmas time is/was as amazing as mine has been.
Spending time with my family has been absolutely amazing, and it’s so enlivening to see them all. Wow I miss them.
Patagonia is really getting me excited!
Are you still rambling around? Anything big planned?
      All the best,
      -Dan

      • Mike says:

Things are pretty darn good…..Christmas/New Years was spent with the family, which was nice after spending the previous two away from home. I’ve made a very smooth transition into a much more sedentary lifestyle-lots of computer time, with a dash of old man basketball at the YMCA, and a sprinkling of old woman book club at the public library. What can I say? I like my oldies. Pretty soon I think I’m going to let the rambling man that has been stirring inside me loose for a little while, but first there’s a bit more frolicking with the old-timers that needs to be done. Take care Dan.

        Mike

        • Dan says:

Hey Mike, That’s awesome to hear you are doing so well. Christmas with the family is always great.
Take care, enjoy that rambling when it starts again :)

It’s great to read that you’re in Buenos Aires qith your family! after all these months, you deserve it! Remember to write when you’re coming to Chile again, and don’t forget to enjoy Baires, take your family to the Café Tortoni in Av.de Mayo, near 9 de julio, and La Esquina de Homero Manzi (San Juan and Boedo Streets). And please, go to all the bookstores in Corrientes St. And if you want to go beyond the touristic neighbourhoods, go to Caballito, Once and Abasto.

Ok, Big hug and hope we can meet here in Chile!

    Lore
