Across South Africa

We have really enjoyed our time in South Africa, though we’re aware we need to get moving. There are so many countries to see between Cape Town and Egypt, and we want to do each of them justice by spending as much time in each as we possibly can.

With that in mind we hit the road and lay down some miles, driving clear across South Africa in a few days. A highlight is hanging out with Rob and Mandy from Where To Next Africa – they drove down the West Coast about eight months in front of me, and their blog was an excellent source of information and useful stuff. It’s fun to tell stories and remember some of the crazier parts of the West Coast together.

We visit the apartheid museum in Johannesburg, an extremely moving and impressive display of how far South Africa has come since only 1995.

The Jeep has been brilliant so far on the expedition, never letting me down once. Until now I have only done engine oil changes and tire rotations every six thousand miles so now it’s time to do some more major maintenance, some repairs and even some upgrades. It’s time to get everything as ready as it can be for the run to Cairo.

Johannesburg is the perfect place for that and I tick off a lot of jobs in a short amount of time. Tons of details and photos about all the work done are coming soon.
