Towards Cape Town
The Road Chose Me Volume 2 OUT NOW!!
The Road Chose Me Volume 2: Three years and 54,000 miles around Africa
Over a few days we meander along the coast, checking out the sights and enjoying sunny days.
We stay with friends who also drove the Pan-Am highway around the same time as me who I have not seen since Overland Expo in about 2014. It’s great to catch up with friends, great to hangout with people who so throughly understand life on the road, and great to have fast wifi! Ha.
As another reminder of the Pan-Am Highway we visit a small penguin colony, something I have not seen since Southern Argentina.
In Hout Bay we spend a morning snorkeling with seals, which is hard to put into words. There are hundreds of seals swimming in the frigid water, and we snorkel in and around them. The younger ones are playful just like puppies, and I stay as long as I can in the water before my entire face goes numb from the cold. The Southern Atlantic is seriously cold!
(I don’t have photos of the seals, though I do have a ton of go pro footage, so keep your eyes out for a future video)
This coastline of South Africa is simply stunning. I grew up thinking the Great Ocean Road in Australia is the most stunning coast drive in the world, though now I think South Africa holds that title.
We’re getting close to the big city of Cape Town…

Hi Dan, would you tell me where this beautiful camp is situated or name?
Hi Inge,
I just had a good look, and I’m pretty sure it’s this place – http://www.ioverlander.com/places/32607-kogelbaai-caravan-park
But to be honest, I’m not 100% certain. It’s certainly in that general area! Drive the coast road and you’ll find it!
All the best,
-Dan
