Sources De Meski

I wind down out of the mountains, and stumble across the magical Sources De Meski. After driving hundreds of miles through sun-baked, rocky desert, I’ve found an actual oasis. An honest to goodness, like in the movies oasis, complete with palm trees and fresh water bubbling up from the ground.

It’s too good to be true.
A huge canyon has been eroded into the desert floor, at the bottom of which a natural spring pours out crystal clear water. Palm trees and farmland pack the canyon, and naturally it’s a hangout and local meeting point.

I camp under palm trees, swim in the oasis and hike to the ruins of the old city that’s about 500 years old up on the canyon rim.

It really is paradise here. Morocco continues to amaze me.

Dan is there anywhere i can read about your old jeep with the diesel engine conversion, I had a liberty crd and finally retired it with 300,000 kms. I’d love to convert a wrangler and yours sounded bullet proof.

      Hi Dave,

The engine blew up the week after I got it back. There are details in JPFreek Adventure Magazine, you can read back-issues on the site.

Great site and post Dave. I’ve been thinking of doing South America in my 99 TJ and found your site. Problem is I will need to use the back seats for my kids. I have a Kargo Master and Congo cage. I guess I will have to pack light!!
I’m interested in that diesel conversion too!

Hi Dan. Is it possible to add the geo locations for all these sites you are visiting. Trying to peg them on Google earth but have not have had any success yet.

    • Dan Grec says:

      Hi Pieter,

I am not recording them in any way, so sorry, I can’t be of help.

Lots of sites in ioverlander.com if you have not seen that yet!
