Great Zimbabwe

Grubs for sale on the roadside. Yes, they’re for eating. No, I didn’t eat any!

The ruins of Great Zimbabwe lie in the South of the country, and are well worth a visit. This medieval city was built from the 11th to 15th centuries, and marks the only known rock construction of this scale in sub-Saharan Africa.

The walls up high are built into and on the natural rocks from the mountain

For a few dollars we take a tour with a very knowledgeable guide who explains everything and shows us all the corners and hidden fascinating details.

The walls are immense, and constructed without mortar

The ruins are simply stunning and there is virtually nobody here!
