When I set out to drive my Jeep from the Northern tip of Alaska to Tierra del Fuego on the Southern tip of South America, I had no idea how much the adventure would change my life. Over the course of two years, my first expedition spanned forty thousand miles through sixteen countries.

Now I will never be the same.

After years of saving, dreaming and planning, I wanted to find out if an ordinary guy can achieve the extraordinary. With no sponsorship, a modest savings account and a willingness to learn Spanish, I threw himself in. Going solo, with no GPS and sleeping in a ground tent, I wanted to experience everything the Americas have to offer. From poking lava with a stick and hiking among world-famous  mountains to corrupt military and camping with Ecuadorian locals – every day provided something new.

With my eyes and ears open to the world around me, I met many interesting and thought-provoking characters. With their guidance and prodding, and by using their unique perspective, I was able to learn many valuable life lessons. Running to the beat of a different  drum, Latin America was the perfect classroom for me to view our modern work-a-day world through an entirely new lens.

You can pickup a copy of my new print book, The Road Chose Me Volume 1 on Amazon in print or digital download, and on Apple Books as a digital download.

    Dear Dan

I just finished reading your book “the road chose me vol 1″. It was so fun and so emotional to read it. Thank you for sharing your experiences with others. There is so much I felt similar on my 8 trips to iceland or the single one to morocco. The wait until we can start our own panam adventure in summer 2019 will become a real torture.

    kind regards
    Noé

      All the best,

    Dan,
Your books are available in the Apple store, it seems, but they don’t appear to be available in the Hong Kong Apple store. Is this something you can control on your side?
I’d really like to buy some of your titles, and I’d prefer to avoid amazon.

    Thanks, Fab

    • Dan Grec says:

      Hi Fab,

I have enabled them for sale in every story I possibly can. I don’t know why they are not showing up in the hong kong store. I will look into it and see if I Can come up with anything!

      Thanks,
      -Dan

Dan- Can you explain more on how you are planning for “retirement”. Whatever that means to you- whether it is staying abroad forever and not returning to the States or other. I just ordered your book, and I’m almost done with “Your money or your life”. I’m young and attempting to achieve FI. Do you have any suggestions on how to tie FI and long term travel together? Thank you for your response!!! An email would be appreciated so I can dig further.

    • Dan Grec says:

      Hi Sam,

I work when I need to or when I feel like it, then I spend savings when I’m not working. I’ve been slowly building some passive income with published books, and I write for magazine articles and do a few other things on the side. I don’t really believe in “traditional” retirement though – I’ll keep working just as much as I need to in order to fund the life I want to live.
      Good luck!
      -Dan

    Hey Dan,

I would love to read you book but unfortunately i can only get it at Amazon, for which i need a credit card, which i don’t have. Is there any other way to get it? In Europa a lot of the time we can pay with Paypal or Ideal.

    Thank you!

    Dan,
I just noticed your planned trip to Australia. If you haven’t read Cold Beer and Crocodiles, by Roff Smith, I believe you might enjoy it. Safe travels!
I’ve ordered both volumes of “The Road Chose Me” and am seriously considering the trip. After reading Blue Highways by William Least-Heat Moon I followed his path for the most part and circumnavigated the country.
    Regards,
    Elaine
