Palapye Waterfall and Ruins
The Road Chose Me Volume 2 OUT NOW!!
The Road Chose Me Volume 2: Three years and 54,000 miles around Africa
We read about the spectacular canyon and ruins at Palapye and decide to detour to find them. Eventually we stumble onto the correct road and ask permission in the nearby village to make a visit. The locals there were on their way out anyway, so we follow them out to the mighty canyon and waterfalls.
The area is supremely beautiful and relaxing, so we laze about in the shade and swim repeatedly in the shallow water.
Nearby lie the remains of a massive church built by English missionaries in the late 1800s, one of the first in the surrounding area. The size is hard to believe, though unfortunately only the end walls remain standing.
Amazingly, there is a “campsite” right next to the ruins – basically just a clearing in the forest with a couple of fire rings. Of course there is nobody around for miles and we have the place to ourselves.
Perfect!
