999 Days Around Africa: The Road Chose Me

Over the next four months I am touring with the Jeep to virtually all the Overland and large Jeep shows in North America.
‘The Jeep That Conquered Africa’ will be on display, and I’ll be on hand to answer questions, give tours of the Jeep and generally hang out.

I will be presenting slideshows and speaking on discussion panels about my time in Africa, my Jeep and everything I have learned along the way.

These shows are a fantastic way to learn more about Overlanding, and get the skills, information and inspiration needed to set out on your own global expedition.

    Hi Dan,
    Congratulations!
I crossed Australia from east to westcoast, the Simpson desert in a Toyota in 1984 which, at the time was a real challange but what you did is outstanding! I followed you since Mauretania and must say that your trip around Africa was amazing.
I’ curious what your further plans may be after all the shows and expos?
    All the best.
    Nico

      Hey Nico,

Thanks for the kind words! Your expedition in ’84 sounds awesome. I can only imagine what Africa would have been like back then!
After the expos I don’t have a concrete plan yet. I have lots of dreams and ideas and a few irons in the fire, but nothing is actually locked in yet.

Congrats on the successful trip Dan! Going to miss your posts on here. I remember your reddit post way back when and how everyone was saying you were going to get yourself killed, well, jokes on them now. Your trip is a true inspiration and I wish you well in the future.

    PS. It’s “Pennsylvania” :p

    • Dan Grec says:

      Thanks Eric!

That sure feels like a long time ago! I will do an AMA update on Reddit in about a week, that should be interesting!

Also, plenty of new photos and adventures to come.

Dan: I have loved watching your adventures in Africa. From the first Jeep build, I was hooked.

As far as places to visit regionally, the NJ Jeep Invasion in Wildwood NJ should be on your radar.
Imagine: you get to drive the same Jeep on the sands on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean! Not many people could say that.
It is just after the Butler Pa Bantam Jeep Festival.
Could be a longer drive to the west coast, but what an opportunity for you!!

    • Dan Grec says:

      Hey Warren,

Thanks for the suggestion, it’s on my list, but it’s a loooong way from where I’ll be and very, very late in the season, so currently I’m leaning towards “no” for that one. We’ll see.

Absolutely loved reading/living vicariously through your African adventure. Very inspiring and educational. I’m sure you have touched alot of lives along the way. Congrats and I will be ordering your book about Alaska to Argentina asap!

Hello Dan! Been following your journey since the beginning! Would be incredible if you might consider both the Vermont Overland Bird Watching Safari (my favorite overland rally of them all in Vermont (https://www.vermontoverland.com/vobs) would be an incredible experience to have you there! Hope it may be an option for you and your story. Cheers, Jennifer
