Yeah I was not sure about the man made parts either. I imagine back in the day a lot of the ladder sections were very very sketchy steep switchbacks up and down. The cable cars would have been crazy river crossings.
So in a way, the man made stuff makes it more doable for the average joe, instead of a shipwreck survivor.

man, that’s a sweet hike. The man made parts look fun too. I’m usually not for those but they seem to enhance – and protect – the trail. Great report.
